Santa Fe Indian School Lannan Literary Grant
This grant is in support of the Spoken Word program at the school. Santa Fe Indian School was founded in 1890 as a K-12 boarding school for Native American children from New Mexico’s Indian pueblos and now includes Native students from Arizona, Oklahoma, and other surrounding states. The Spoken Word program, initiated and directed by teacher Tim McLaughlin, has gained national and international recognition over the last seven years at such competitions as the National Youth Poetry Festival and the Baltic Cultural Exchange in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
