with John O'BrienWednesday December 6 2000
David Foster Wallace (1962-2008) authored the novel Infinite Jest, as well as the essay collections Consider the Lobster and A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again, and the story collection, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. According to Wallace, "fiction's about what it is to be a fucking human being," expressing a desire to write "morally passionate, passionately moral fiction" that could help readers "become less alone inside." Mr. Wallace received a Lannan Literary Award for Fiction in 1996.
