Sharan Strange

Sharan Strange is a poet, activist, and founding member of the Dark Room Collective and co-curator of its Dark Room Reading Series. She grew up in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and her poems often draw on themes from her childhood in the rural South. She was educated at Harvard College and received an MFA in Poetry from Sarah Lawrence College.

Her work has appeared in journals such as Callaloo, The American Poetry Review, Painted Bride Quarterly, Beltway Poetry Quarterly, Agenda, AGNI, Mosaic, and L-I-N-K-E-D, and in numerous anthologies. Strange's honors include a Barnard Women Poets Prize, a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers' Award, and a Pushcart Prize nomination. She teaches at Spelman College and is an advisory editor to Callaloo, a journal of arts, letters, and culture of the African Diaspora.
