Alan Gilbert is the author of the poetry collections The Everyday Life of Design (Studio / SplitLevel Texts, 2020), The Treatment of Monuments (SplitLevel Texts, 2012) and Late in the Antenna Fields (Futurepoem Books, 2011). He is also the author of a collection of essays, articles, and reviews entitled Another Future: Poetry and Art in a Postmodern Twilight (Wesleyan University Press, 2006).

His art writing has appeared in numerous publications including in Aperture, Artforum, BOMB, the Brooklyn Rail, Cabinet, e-flux journal, 4Columns, frieze, Hyperallergic, Modern Painters, Parkett, and the Village Voice. Additionally, he has contributed art catalogue essays and entries for a number of biennials, group shows, and solo exhibitions.

Gilbert is the recipient of a 2019 Creative Capital / Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, a 2009 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Poetry, and a 2006 Creative Capital Foundation Award for Innovative Literature.
